"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young. Be an example to all believers, in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith and your purity."1 Timothy 4:12

Times Tables

Within St Mary's we are using the website Times Tables Rockstars to encourage the children to learn their tables.  Your child will have been given their own individual login so that their progress can be recorded.  If you do no have a login for your child please speak to your child's teacher.  Below is a link to the website.

One of the aims of the National Curriculum is to ensure all pupils become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics.  This doesn’t mean learning facts simply by rote and Staff at St Mary’s strive to explain and allow children to explore the mathematical structure and patterns of the times tables. However, being able to recall facts quickly and accurately, through frequent practise enables children to access more complex problems and concepts.

The expectations for pupils are as follows:

Year 2’s should be able to recall multiplication and division facts including missing number problems for the 2’s 5’s and 10’s.

Year 3’s should be able to recall multiplication and division facts including missing number problems  for the 4’s 8’s and 3’s.

Year 4’s should be able to recall multiplication and division facts including missing number problems  for all the times tables up to the 12’s.

Years 5’s and 6’s should be able to recall squared, cubed root numbers as well.

The pupils are encouraged to practice for weekly times table tests. The tests last 5 minutes.  Copies of these tests can be found on this webpage.  By downloading the files and pressing Function F9 when they are open random facts will be generated.

All children in Year 2 and above have also be given access to TT Rockstars which they can access on PC’s and mobile devices to make practise more engaging and fun.
